Psycho-oncological counseling center at the AKS/IFS
Psychosocial effects of cancer: who takes care of thoughts and feelings?

A tumor can usually be made visible using imaging techniques, but the thoughts and feelings of a cancer patient cannot. Outsiders cannot always immediately recognize or understand how these change during the course of the disease.
A separate scientific discipline, psycho-oncology, researches the psychological effects of cancer on those affected and develops ways of providing support. Cancer never affects just one person: it also has an impact on relatives and friends and changes a patient's relationships with their environment. This is why it is also referred to as psychosocial oncology.
The FFBT is also very aware of the importance of a psycho-oncological counseling center. For this reason, we have been continuously supporting the psycho-oncological counseling center at the Schaubstraße Outpatient Cancer Center and the Intradisciplinary Specialist Center Sachsenhausen since the foundation of the association and since the first donations were received.
